Lauren Joyanne Morris

Singers, mezzo-soprano

British born mezzo-soprano Lauren Joyanne Morris is a graduate of the Royal College of Music International Opera Studio (RCMIOS), having completed her Master of Vocal Performance (Distinction) at the Royal College of Music, London. During her time at the RCMIOS, she studied under Tim Evans-Jones and was a Fishmongers’ Company Beckwith Scholar supported by a Douglas and Hilda Simmonds Scholarship. Lauren Joyanne was also generously supported by the John Clemence Charitable Trust, the John Wates Charitable Trust and the Josephine Baker Trust. She now studies with Mary Plazas.

Lauren Joyanne began her vocal studies at the Junior Birmingham Conservatoire and in 2012 she graduated from the University of Birmingham with a first-class honours degree in Music and English Literature. Subsequently, she went on to gain a Distinction in her Master of Music at the same institution, with a full Bramall Music Scholarship.

Performance highlights include covering the roles of Isolier in Le Comte Ory and Zerlina in Don Giovanni for Garsington Opera, covering the role of Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel for Waterperry Opera, and covering the role of Johanna in Sweeney Todd for Welsh National Opera. Lauren Joyanne has also had the pleasure of covering the role of Dowager Queen in contemporary family opera, The Rattler, for Mahogany Opera Group, performing the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni for British Youth Opera and singing the roles of Young Tree and Narrator in Paul Bunyan for Welsh National Youth Opera: a production which received a Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award.

For the Royal College of Music International Opera School, Lauren Joyanne has performed the roles of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro (under the direction of Sir Thomas Allen), Man Friday in Robinson Crusoe, Susan Wheeler in In the Locked Room, Hermia in The Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fox (cover), Grasshopper, Dog and Woodpecker in The Cunning Little Vixen and Childerico in Faramondo (in association with The London Handel Festival).

Concert experience includes performing selections of music by Stephen Sondheim at Cadogan Hall, singing in a performance of Serenade to Music at Buckingham Palace, under the baton of John Wilson and performing the role of Johanna in Sweeney Todd alongside Bryn Terfel at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. Lauren Joyanne has sung the role of Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas, and has also performed as a soloist in Fauré’s Requiem and Mozart’s Requiem, both under the baton of leading choral conductor, Simon Halsey.

Lauren Joyanne was named as the only UK semi-finalist at the Lotte Lenya Competition 2021 when she also sang Zerlina in Don Giovanni with the Oxford Sinfonia at the Sheldonian Theatre and covered Isolier in Garsington Opera’s Le comte Ory, also singing the role in their Opera First performance. Earlier this year she covered the roles of Handmaid 2 and Econowife in The Handmaid’s Tale for English National Opera, and in the summer sang Proserpina in Orfeo for Garsington Opera, then singing Alcina in Caccini’s La liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina as one of Longborough Festival Opera’s Emerging Artists. Last year she covered the lead role of Lorca in Scottish Opera’s ‘Ainadamar’ and returned to ENO, covering the Mezzo Angel in Heggie’s ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’.
