Chunxi Stella Hu
Chunxi Stella Hu studied singing in China and in 2019 received the highest degree cum laude from the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. She had previously won singing prizes in 2015 at the Rolando Nicolosi Competition (First) and in 2016 at the Torneo Internazionale di Musica. The same year she was selected by Jose Carreras to take part in his Masterclasses and then the Final concert with the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini, conducted by Daniele Agiman, in Pesaro.
Further competition successes came in 2018 at the Jole de Maria Competition and in the same year in China at the Paolo Coni International Competition. Later that year she made her operatic debut in the role of Violetta La Traviata at the Teatro Bonci in Cesena, conducted by Paolo Manetti. She repeated the role at the Concert Hall Blagoje Bersa in Zagreb under the direction of Michelangelo Galeati; this was part of an exchange between the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the University of Zagreb Academy of Music.
Last year Stella won Third Prize at the Gino Maruzzi International Opera Competition in Sicily and gave concerts with the Orchestra of the Bayerisches Staatsoper in Munich, a Puccini and Verdi Gala at the Teatro Antico di Taormina, and at the Teatro Verdi in Busseto. She began this year with a concert I memory of Franco Zeffirelli at the Fondazione Zeffirelli in Firenze. She won the First Prize at the Corso Lirico Rinaldo Pelizzoni in Parma.
She recently covered the role of Liù Turandot at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari and sings the role next year at the Centenary Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago. In autumn 2024 she will sing Cio-Cio-San Madama Butterfly at the Royal Danish Opera and she will debut the title role of Aida at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville in 2026.
